Thesis Statement

I'm not quite sure on how to word my thesis statement but here's a general idea. If anyone has any ideas on what I should do feel free to let me know!

Proposed Thesis Statement:
Looking into the relationship between eastern and western theories of architecture and if they might have influenced each other in some way.

Method of Research:

  • Looking into various building designs and orientations
  • Analyzing the design approach taken to design these buildings and their orientations
  • Breaking down the concepts of eastern "Feng Shui" and western "vernacular" design theories
  • Organizing these theories and applying them to a structural framework to compare

Hey Jobina,

I think I would reword your thesis statement a bit to make it more like a question. Maybe:

What is the relationship between Eastern and Western architecture and has there been influences from one to the other?

Also, I may be having a "moment" but can you explain what you mean by "applying them to a structural framework to compare"? Are you going to create some sort of design at the end of this project?

I hope that helps a little bit!

Thanks Sam, that was a good suggestion for my thesis statement.

As for the "structural framework", I mean that by making kind of a list of the fundamentals of both design methods so that it is structured and organized and better to understand.

Oh okay, thanks for explaining that! :)

I still don't know if I get really how this is an applied research report though, I mean I get that you are comparing and contrasting the two different theories, but to what end?

No worries!

I'm still looking into a better way to word it but I'm also leaning more into researching the efficiency of vernacular architecture, so if you check back I might have some updates on that and the topic might be a little different but I'm going to run with this until it feels as though I'm running into a dead end on it. Thanks for asking, it helps me clear things up for sure.
